Values through Pictures
We know that values drive a business, and so it is essential that any new business knows what they are. But the list of values that a company or organisation comes up with feels just like that; a list, disconnected from any reality, and possibly even a stick to beat employees with.
I like to generate real values through pictures and non verbal representation. Perhaps in asking individuals to describe how they are working, and what they want to do more of. In this way it becomes obvious what the group actually values, both in what they are doing, and what they want to move towards. This is far more motivating and is a more honest basis for real actions that follow on from values.
